Privacy Policy
The short version. Dogzi has no server of its own, no accounts, no analytics, and shows no ad without your explicit, one-at-a-time consent for each ad. Photos, recordings, pet profiles and videos stay in your phone's storage. Only four things can leave your device, described in section 4: your spoken reply passed to the system speech recognition service, data sent to Google Gemini if you add your own API key, an optional ad you choose to watch for one extra saved video, and payment handling on the Google Play side.
1. Who is responsible for the app
The operator and publisher of Dogzi – Dog Translator AI is Dogzi, Łódź, Poland.
Privacy contact: privacy@dogzi.app.
The operator name above must match the developer name shown next to the app on Google Play.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy covers the Dogzi mobile app for Android and this website. Dogzi has no backend of its own – there is no server here that could collect or store your data.
dogzi.app is a static website. It uses no analytics or
marketing cookies, embeds no tracking pixels and does not profile
visitors. Your browser only downloads the files needed to display the
pages.
3. What stays on your device
The data below is created and stored locally, in the app's storage or on your phone. It is not sent to the Dogzi operator, because the operator runs no server that could receive it.
- Recordings of your pet's sounds. Detecting the moment your animal makes a sound happens entirely on the device. Fragments of the real barking or meowing are used to build the soundtrack of the video you save.
- Photos and the camera feed. The live preview and video recording are processed locally.
- Recognising your pet from a photo. Guessing the breed, size and visual traits uses a model that runs directly on the device (ML Kit Image Labeling). The photo is not uploaded anywhere for this.
- Pet profiles. Name, gender, species, the recognised breed, size, coat, colouring, build type, life stage and personality traits “by appearance”, along with a reference to the photo, go into the app's local database.
- Conversation transcripts and humour preferences. The lines of a conversation are stored locally so that subtitles can be built for the video. Your 👍/👎 ratings are counted as per-pet humour category statistics, so later lines match your taste better. Both stay in the database on your device.
- Saved videos. You save them deliberately, with the “Save” button. They go to your phone's gallery and are subject to your own system settings and any backup you have configured yourself.
- App settings, including language and – if you add one – your own Google Gemini API key. The key is stored in the app's private storage area on your device and is never transmitted anywhere except in the calls to Google described in section 4.2.
- An active Premium flag – a single yes/no value, refreshed from Google Play.
4. What can leave your device
There are exactly four such cases. None of them involves sending data to the Dogzi operator.
4.1. Recognising your speech
When you reply to your pet by holding the microphone button, Dogzi uses Android's system speech recognition service. That is a component of your phone, not a Dogzi service. Depending on your device manufacturer and your system settings, the provider is usually Google.
This means a recording of your speech may be processed on the servers of that speech recognition provider, in line with that provider's privacy policy and your system settings. The Dogzi app only receives the resulting text – it does not get a copy of the audio and does not forward it anywhere. Sounds made by your pet are not sent to speech recognition.
Some devices let you enable offline speech recognition. You will find this in your phone's system settings.
4.2. Your optional Google Gemini key
Dogzi works fully offline using its built-in bank of lines. By default no cloud AI service is called at all.
If you enter your own Google Gemini API key in settings –
one you obtained yourself from Google AI Studio – the app will start
sending requests directly from your device to Google's endpoint
(generativelanguage.googleapis.com) over an encrypted HTTPS
connection. Such a request contains:
- an instruction describing the speaking style and your pet's profile,
- the recognised text of the lines said so far in the current conversation,
- optionally one photo from the camera as JPEG, sent at most once per conversation – this is what lets the reply refer to what is visible in shot.
The audio recording itself is never sent to Gemini. Analysis of your pet's sounds happens entirely on the device; only text and possibly that one photo reach Google.
This is your connection to Google, not ours. The requests run on your own API account and are governed by the agreement and privacy settings you have with Google. The Dogzi operator does not relay this traffic, cannot see its contents, does not store it and has no access to your Google account. Before you add a key, read Google's terms for the Gemini API, including how submitted data may be used. You can remove the key in the app's settings at any time – Dogzi then returns to fully offline operation.
4.3. Buying and renewing Premium
Payments are handled entirely by Google Play Billing. The purchase, payment details and subscription management stay with Google. Dogzi never receives your card details.
The app asks Google Play whether you have an active subscription and stores a local yes/no flag based on the answer. We do not build a customer database or a purchase history of our own.
4.4. An optional ad for one extra video
Once you've used your free limit of 10 saved videos, you can choose to watch a short ad in exchange for one more video, or go Premium instead. No ad ever appears without that choice – Dogzi has no pop-up ads, banners or interstitials anywhere else in the app, unlike a typical game. This is the only place the app shows an ad at all.
Ads are served through the Google Mobile Ads SDK. Before the first ad is ever requested, the app asks for consent under the EU consent framework (Google's User Messaging Platform) - in the EEA and UK you'll see Google's own consent form before anything loads. Serving the ad itself may use your device's advertising ID and send data to Google for ad delivery and measurement, per Google's privacy policy. This data flow only happens if you actively choose to watch an ad - never automatically.
5. Permissions and why they are needed
| Permission | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Detecting your pet's sounds and receiving your reply. The core feature does not work without it. |
| Camera | The photo used to create a pet profile, plus the preview and recording of the conversation. |
| Internet and network state | Used only for Google Gemini calls if you add your own key, and for Google Play Billing. Without a key the app initiates no AI connections. |
| Storage write (older Android versions) | Saving the finished video to your phone's gallery. Newer Android versions do not need this permission. |
| Notifications | A single local reminder if you haven't opened the app in 2 weeks. Computed and shown entirely on-device – nothing is sent to any server, there is no push service. |
We ask for permissions only when you first use the relevant feature. Refusing does not break the app – we show an explanation instead and you can change your mind later. Dogzi does not request location, contacts, SMS, call history or broad file access.
6. What Dogzi does not do
- It does not require or offer user accounts.
- It shows no ad without your explicit, one-at-a-time consent - zero pop-ups, banners or interstitials. The only ad in the app is the fully optional one for an extra saved video (section 4.4); Premium shows no ads at all.
- It collects no usage statistics. There is no Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics or any other analytics or crash-reporting tool in it.
- It does not sell data to third parties. The only data shared with an ad partner is for the ad in section 4.4, and only when you turn it on.
- It does not upload your photos, videos or recordings to the operator's servers, because no such servers exist.
7. Purposes and legal bases
Locally processed data serves only the features you start yourself: recognising your pet, holding a conversation, recording and saving a video, and handling the subscription.
If the GDPR applies to you, the legal basis is performance of the service you are using (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and, for the optional Google Gemini connection, your deliberate decision to add your own key.
8. How long data is kept
- Pet profiles, conversation transcripts, rating statistics and settings – until you delete them in the app, or uninstall the app or clear its data.
- Saved videos – they stay in your phone's gallery until you delete them. Uninstalling Dogzi does not remove them.
- Temporary working files from recording and editing – deleted once processing finishes.
- Your Gemini key – until you remove it in settings or uninstall the app.
- Data held by Google (speech recognition, Gemini, Google Play, ads) – according to Google's own policies, over which the Dogzi operator has no control.
9. Deleting your data
Because Dogzi has no accounts and no server, you delete all app data yourself, immediately:
- an individual profile or video – from within the app,
- all app data – in Android settings: Apps → Dogzi → Storage → Clear data, or simply by uninstalling the app,
- videos already saved to the gallery – from your phone's gallery app.
If you still want to submit a data request, write to privacy@dogzi.app. Data processed by Google in connection with speech recognition, the Gemini API or Google Play is deleted in the settings of the relevant Google account.
10. Security
- Outgoing connections use HTTPS/TLS encryption.
- The app contains no embedded keys to AI services – it works only with a key you deliberately enter.
- App data is kept in the app's private storage area, protected by Android's own mechanisms.
- We keep no server logs containing conversation content, because we run no server.
Your API key is stored in the app's private storage. On a device with unlocked administrative access (root) that protection is weaker – this is a general property of the platform, not something specific to Dogzi.
11. Children
Dogzi is aimed at adult dog and cat owners and is neither designed nor marketed as an app for children. We do not knowingly collect children's data. The target audience declared in Google Play matches this description.
12. Your rights
If the GDPR or comparable law applies to you, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, object to and port your data. In practice you exercise most of these rights yourself, because the data sits on your device and is entirely under your control. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority – in Poland this is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO).
13. Changes to this policy
If the app gains features that change how data flows – for example user accounts, a backend of our own, analytics, or new ad formats – this policy will be updated before such a version ships, along with the Data Safety form on Google Play. The current version and change date are shown at the top of this document.
